Top picks for getting out Feb. 13 – 19 including Smalltown DJs, Date/Less Valentine’s, Tom Wilson and Junkhouse and GLOW Winter Festival

It’s Family Day Weekend! And there’s no shortage of stuff to do for that and that “other” thing that’s happening Friday. If you are so inclined.

Thursday: It’s Date/Less Valentine’s over at cSpace King Edward where you can grab a date or meet someone new at this 2nd annual event. The Sadlier-Brown Trio will play the Off Cut Bar at the Nash on the Music Mile tonight, and Ryan Langlois will be in the Alberta Spotlight at the King Eddy. Tom Wilson and Junkhouse will play the Palace, and Alberta Ballet’s Unleashed is at the Jubilee.

Friday: Yay! Valentine’s Day! You hate it, too? Great! But here are some things to take your mind off of the dumpster fire that is your love life (Kari), such as the GLOW Winter Festival taking place along Stephen Avenue Walk, which features a ton of illuminated delights! It’s also $10 Date Night at Studio Bell, and over at the Central Library it’s Locked Library: Happily Ever After … Again, Valentine’s Day edition! At Lougheed House you can take in A Vintage Valentine’s: The Roaring 20s with great dining, literature and music! At the Jack Singer Concert Hall it’s CPO’s Beethoven 1: Immortal Beloved. Over at Broken City you can take in the As Above Album Release with Dane Surf Dads and Bloody Monroe.

Saturday: Head back down to Lougheed House for the Beltline Bonspiel! It’s a premier winter festival celebrating local community and rooted in Calgary’s proud heritage. Soulfly with Toxic Holocaust will perform at the Gateway, and back at the Jack Singer it’s Beethoven 2: Romance presented, of course, by the CPO. Chixdiggit are at the King Eddy, but it’s sold out so hopefully you got a ticket, and Set It Off with Capstan, Only The Strong & Luna Coast will be at The Rec Room.

Monday: Family Day! Head to Studio Bell for A Smalltown DJs Family Dance Party happening All! Day! Long! Across the road at the King Eddy you can take in Family Day with Jory Kinjo from noon-4 p.m., and across the road from THERE you can take the kids to a Family Day Pajama Party at the Central Library! Just down the road a few hours later you can catch Danny Michel’s Family Day Special at Ironwood. That’s a whole schwack of stuff happening on the Music Mile on Monday. Wowza.

Tuesday: Calgary Underground Film Festival presents their Off the CUFF series with Guns Akimbo at the Globe Cinema, Workshop Theatre presents their production of And Then, The Lights Went Out at the Pumphouse Theatres, and Theatre Outré presents Whale Riding Weather at the West Village Theatre.

Wednesday: Comedian Andy Haynes will be at the Laugh Shop and you can still catch Whispers in the Dark at Vertigo Theatre tonight. And that’s a wrap!
