Festival Express: Cancelled summer events get a second shot with drive-in Rise Up weekend

Miss the sounds of the midway this year? Bummed you couldn’t enjoy some Prince’s Island time at the end of July? Blue you couldn’t, er, get your blues in August?

Well, you’ll get a second shot thanks to the Rise Up weekend, taking place Sept. 25 to 27 at Big Art’s Drive-In at TELUS Spark.

The event is organized by RISE UP, “an open-source platform that unites arts, hospitality and tourism partners to develop a comprehensive array of initiatives and events to relaunch the arts sector by building and promoting the best possible conditions for success for both audiences and artists.”

The weekend will feature three days of concerts to support the festivals affected by this COVID shutdown, including the Calgary folk fest, BIG, the Stampede, SoundOff, Reggaefest and the Calgary International Blues Festival.

Tickets are $25 for a car filled with a maximum of four, with proceeds going to the presenting organizations.
