A life-preserver or a tidal wave?
Sometimes those we fall in love with can be both.
That’s the underlying theme behind the new single from Alberta roots veteran John Wort Hannam, Beautiful Mess, which appears on his forthcoming album Long Haul to be released Oct. 15, 2021 on the Black Hen Music label.
The tune, a duet with “Lethbridge’s honky tonkin’ songstress Shaela Miller” is a clever, catchy and cynical yet true take on the other side of Hallmark love — it is perhaps a more realistic view on matters of the heart, when, two disasters can come together to make a Beautiful Mess.
As Hannam says, “the humorous duet fits comfortably alongside country classics like Jackson or In Spite of Ourselves.”
“We’re all flawed anyway,” he says, “so find someone who loves you for who you are and hang on tight.”
