Margaret Atwood bringing her new sequel to The Handmaid’s Tale, The Testaments, to Calgary for September Wordfest event

It has gained a whole new fanbase not only because of the award-winning TV series based on it, but the current socio political environment.

So it’s no surprise that Canadian author Margaret Atwood has chosen to revisit the dystopian world of her 1985 novel The Handmaid’s Tale with a sequel, The Testaments.

She’ll be bringing that book to Calgary for a special Wordfest event at the Bella Concert Hall on Sept. 29.

Here’s how the book is described:

“When the van door slammed on Offred’s future at the end of The Handmaid’s Tale, readers had no way of telling what lay ahead. With The Testaments, the wait is over. Margaret Atwood’s sequel picks up the story 15 years after Offred stepped into the unknown, with the explosive testaments of three female narrators from Gilead.”

Tickets for Atwood’s Wordfest appearance — a reading and an ontsage interview, unfortunately without a signing after — are on sale now and, as Wordfest notes, “for the first time, we’re offering pre-assigned seating … We are also offering specially priced seating in the choir loft for fans who want to embrace Margaret Atwood’s dystopian world by dressing up as Handmaids, Marthas, or Econowives.”
