Star Trek legend George Takei headed to this year’s Calgary Expo

Trekkies set phasers to “stunned.” And “excited.”

The Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo has just added Star Trek and social media legend George Takei to this year’s event, which takes place April 23 to 26 on the Stampede Grounds.

“We’re thrilled that George Takei will be celebrating our 15th anniversary,” Kandrix Foong, Managing Director of FAN EXPO HQ in Western Canada, said in a release.

“George is not only an iconic actor, but an extraordinary advocate for causes he believes in. I never miss a chance to hear him speak. You don’t need to be a Trek fan to appreciate his legacy or enjoy his incredible storytelling ability – we can’t wait until April.”

Takei, known for his role as Hikaru Sulu in the original Star Trek series and several films in the canon, as well as being an outspoken human rights and LGBTQ advocate, will be attending the Expo, with Takei taking part in “photo ops and autograph signing sessions (additional fees apply), and (fans can) hear from him live on stage during his spotlight panel (schedule TBA, free for all ticket holders).”

The actor joins previously announced guests including: Elijah Wood, Sean Astin, Billy Boyd and Dominic Monaghan, who will participate in a Hobbits reunion panel; Breaking Bad actor Giancarlo Esposito; and Brendan Fraser from the Mummy films, Encino Man and Blast From the Past.

Tickets for the 2020 Calgary Expo are available online now from calgaryexpo.com at early bird rates, which expire Jan. 15, 2020.
