There’s so many things happening this week it’s ridiculous – festivals, performances, literary events, you name it. Well, let me name it. Here. Now.
Thursday: The Lost Hours presented by 8ROJO will take place at the Motel Theatre, Arts Commons — it’s an installation performance based on the childhood memoirs of Salvador Dali and his sister Ana Maria. The Ashley Hundred will be performing at The Gateway, Mike Stack will be at Off Cut Bar and Bowcott and the New World will perform over at the King Eddy.
Friday: Circle – The Travelling Food, Beer & Music Carnival takes place this weekend at Shaw Millennium Park with food trucks, entertainment and all-around good times. Cover Art Album Release Party takes place at Festival Hall tonight, celebrating the Calgary Folk Fest’s 40th Anniversary double album! And it’s free! Lissie performs at the Commonwealth, The Music of ABBA presented by the CPO is over at the Jack Singer Concert Hall, Sarah Neufeld will be at Studio Bell, and Gone Cosmic with Denimachine & Crooked Spies are all at Broken City.
Saturday: Wordfest presents Aaron Wherry at Memorial Park Library with his book Promise and Peril: Justin Trudeau in Power. The September Barn Burner at Big Rock Brewery is an outdoor concert featuring a co-bill with Tokyo Police Club, Mt. Joy and Scenic Route to Alaska, all taking place at the brewery. Rae Spoon with Wares will be over at the King Eddy, and Noises Off is Theatre Calgary’s latest offering over at the Max Bell Theatre.
Monday: Hello/Goodbye welcomes 2019/20 Canadian Writer-in-Residence Sharanpal Ruprai to the Calgary Distinguished Writers Program and says goodbye to outgoing Writer-in-Residence Liz Howard — taking place at Lunchbox Theatre. Ziggy Alberts will be over at The Gateway, and Tim Williams will be at The Blues Can.
Tuesday: The Wedding Party presented by ATP will be happening at the Martha Cohen Theatre, and Sarah Hiltz with Ellen Braun and Sonia Deleo will be at The Ironwood.
Wednesday: Two big festivals start today – Beakerhead and Calgary International Film Festival! Check their schedules out to start your planning! NMC Artist in Residence Ian Blurton will end his residency with a performance at the King Eddy, and Love To Kill Ya Baby, a murder mystery dinner theatre will take place over at Fort Calgary.
